DON'T WE ALL?
My German Summer, Part 3
Sharing a love for language is a great way to have several hours of conversation at a café. Today in Munich I met with a lovely lady who not only speaks three languages, she is a teacher, a tutor, and is studying linguistics. Her English was near perfect and her manner and character were so pleasant I forgot the time.
I wondered why all of these people called to sign up for English conversations when there are so many people who do speak English. She said that as many people who speak English living in München, there is precious little opportunity to just sit and practice with individuals. We talked about the importance of one-on-one conversations that teach quickly and so much more than we learn a language at school. It is true. There just isn’t anything like being able to draw a connection to a word through vocal, visual, and relational means.
My new friend’s English is ‘casi perfecto’ (near perfect) and she was the easiest person to talk to this week. But she said she just really craved relationships with people who share the same passion.
